Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I hope that everyone had a great Christmas, enjoyed lots of great food and fun with friends and family. I know that I had a great Christmas and am now using some of the extra free time I have to get ready for the Ottawa 10km Resolution Run.

I think the best part of Christmas is seeing other people’s reactions as they open presents you got them. One of the gifts I gave this year was a Garmin Forerunner 610. This is one of Garmin’s GPS, heart rate monitor, running watches. My girlfriend has wanted a heart monitor for a while to help track her progress running. Now that she has one, we are both beeping down the street.

One of the gifts I got this year is my first wetsuit! If you live is a warm climate you probably don’t need a wetsuit to swim in June but here in Canada you need one. Last year at Ironman 70.3 Mont Tremblant the water temperature was around 18 C, which is pretty chilly for a 2km swim. My girlfriend got me an Xterra Vortex Fullsuit wetsuit. I am really looking forward to going for a swim once it’s warmer out.

To help with my training I got my very own 44lb kettlebell! I am trying to come up with a good name for my kettlebell, I am thinking Kyle but am open to suggestions. I’ve already done my first workout with it and my abs are sore!

This year shopping for me was pretty easy, a lot of my presents came from the Ironman Store – This past year I competed in my first 70.3 race at Ironman 70.3 Mont Tremblant. Being somewhat superstitious, I didn’t want to buy any souvenirs until I had actually finished the race. I didn’t want to jinx myself by getting something that said finisher until I finished. After the race I was pretty spent and neglected to go and get anything. When I woke up the day after the race and went to buy some Ironman gear, it was all packed up I was too late. So this year I was lucky enough to get kitted out by my family. I got a finisher’s jacket, long sleeve name tee, finisher’s tee and 2 pint glasses. I am super happy to get so much cool gear to commemorate my first 70.3 race.
