My first post on my new blog! Over the past couple of years, my focus has changed from food (see my other blog – advenutresottawafoodie.com) to triathlon. I am hoping to use this new blog to talk about triathlon and things that interest me while I am training.
One thing that I’d really like to document, more for myself than anyone else, is my journey towards completing the 2015 Ironman Mont Tremblant. I my opinion completing a full Iron distance triathlon is a pretty impressive feat. The total distance for the race is 140.6 miles or 226.3 kilometers, which is broken up into a 4 km swim, 180 km bike and 42 km run. You need to complete all of this under 17 hours. Needless to say, it takes a lot of training to be able to compete in a full Iron distance race.
For the last 3 years I’ve been having fun doing some shorter races. Up until this year,my race of choice was a sprint triathlon. A sprint race is approximately a 500 meter swim, 24 kilometer bike and 5 kilometer run, a lot shorter than an Iron distance race. The shorter races are a lot of fun and don’t require as much training as the longer races. This year I made the jump to my first Half Ironman, the distances are literally half of a full Ironman for each discipline. After completing Ironman Mont Tremblant 70.3, I knew I had to try a full distance race.
My plan for next year is to complete two half Ironman races and maybe complete my first marathon. I am already signed up for Ironman Mont Tremblant 70.3 2014 and will be signing up Ironman Muskoka 70.3 once registration opens up in November. I am also looking at getting a coach for the first time.
So if you think any of this sounds interesting or just want to read about me suffering through some crazy workouts keep checking back. I am going to try and post something at least twice a week. Sometime is may be more, sometime less. Hope you enjoy the blog!
